Big Girl Room

30 Oct

Do you love decorating your kids rooms? Oh, I do!

I loved my little girl’s nursery, but before our son was born I wanted to give her a Big Girl Room! So I looked for inspiration on Pinterest and then got to work. Here is my inspiration board…

The best thing about this makeover is that it did not cost much at all! I used all the furniture from her nursery, except the crib. She already had a queen sized bed in her room, that we were using as a day bed.

We had the walls painted, recovered the existing head board, had pillows made, and purchased new bedding!

The bedding was very inexpensive. I bought the pink reversible quilt and euro shams from Bed, Bath, and Beyond. The white duvet and feather insert are from Target. I absolutely did not want to spend a lot of money on bedding. She is an active four year old, so it is inevitable that it will get dirty or torn! So I decided to go inexpensive, so replacing it will not be an issue!

We did have the pillows custom made to give the otherwise plain bedding, some interest. See…

This is a DIY headboard, and it was easy! I should say it was easy, because I have a super handy husband! We just recovered it… again with inexpensive fabric. Given that my little girl does handstands and flips into it… I am glad we did not use anything super fancy!

The bookshelf is from Pottery Barn Kids and was originally in her playroom. The bookshelf on the wall is actually a re-purposed china shelf I found at an antique mall. It holds all of her pretty books!

Book Case

This artwork was also purchased at an antique mall! It looks like something she would have painted… wait maybe I should have let her paint the artwork? Oh well! I used a garage sale frame, spray painted it pink, and added a gallery mat. The frame and artwork cost under $60.

My husband built this… to store all of her dress-up dresses and costumes! Here is a link to the instructions we used as a guideline…

Her dresser and mirror were also purchased at an antique mall for under $300! Seriously, can you tell I love shopping at antique malls? I think it might be an addiction!

This is one of my favorite rooms in the house! Who doesn’t love little girls rooms? What do you love about it?

Antique Find Friday…

19 Aug

Well… it is actually Monday, but I found these goodies on Friday! I love furniture and home decor, I walk around antique malls falling in love with lovely things and the prices!! However, my home is full and if I bring home more stuff my husband might kill me! So… instead I will show them to you and maybe you can fall in love too!

First up… Antiques and Uniques (on 1-30)… I love the back room of this antique mall, really some great finds!

Then Midtown Antiques…

BUT… the best find of all!!! My very own antique booth! Yes… that is right! Starting September 1st, I will have a booth at Midtown Antique Mall! I have been on the list forever and every time I go there to shop, I ask if there is any booth availability! Friday was my lucky day and I am thrilled!

So this little gem is my personal FRIDAY FABULOUS FIND! It is small, but it is mine! You have to start somewhere! Note: None of the items in this picture are mine! 🙂

She just needs a little paint, fabric, and gorgeous furniture! Look for the after picture in weeks to come!

Fabulous Finds Friday

15 Jun

I love deals!!! You can really find some fabulous furniture at antique malls and yesterday was a great day for finds! My favorite antique mall is Midtown Antique Mall. I always find way too many things I love there!

I was looking for a bookshelf and dresser for a client. I found some fabulous finds!! The dresser would not be hard to find, the booths in Midtown never disappoint. I always find something to love! Bookshelves however are another story. I have been looking for bookshelves for months and nothing… Nothing on Craigslist and all the bookshelves in antique malls are usually marked “for display only”. That being said, today I hit the jackpot!

This bookshelf for $50!!! Most definitely a deal for my client!! I love it as is, but it will be beautiful when it is painted!

Then I found this! Two in one day! Boy, I was feeling lucky!

Next these beautiful pieces caught my eye! This vendor really knows his to use chalk paint! I am smitten!

This is the dresser I purchased for my client! Hello Gorgeous!!!

The next three are items I did not purchase, but love, love, love!

This dresser with the scroll detail is to die for!

Gorgeous dresser and nightstand pair for a bedroom! I see it in a little boys room, maybe a vintage nursery!

A little farm table love! This would be a great little desk!

Ahh! Antiquing is so thrilling! I love the hunt!
